The goal of this activity is to enhance provider experience with evidence-based management of pelvic floor disorders. It will help them critically evaluate and assimilate information on advances and techniques that impact the field of pelvic floor surgery and to use this evidence to improve practice and patient care. Interpersonal and communication skills are expected to improve in a learning environment conducive to a community of practice.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians and other healthcare professionals interested in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • List anatomical, physiological. and psychological mechanisms that contribute to various bowel, bladder and pelvic organ disorders;
  • Describe the types and etiologies of various bowel, bladder and pelvic organ disorders;
  • List indications diagnostic and imaging modalities for evaluation of bowel, bladder, and pelvic organ disorders;
  • Describe surgical and non-surgical interventions including physical therapy for bladder bowel and pelvic organ disorders;
  • Identify appropriate treatment options for pelvic organ prolapse;
  • Analyze various treatment options for functional disorders of pelvic organs and defecation.

Physical Therapist Credit
The University of Chicago Medical Center is a licensed continuing education provider with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for Physical Therapy, license # 216-000030. All participants will be provided with a certificate of attendance. This course is approved for 4.5 continuing education hours for licensed therapists (PT, PTA) in Illinois. The University of Chicago Medical Center has not applied to any other state for therapist CE credit. Participants will need to do this individually through their jurisdiction outside of Illinois.

Other Health Professions Credit
Nurses and other healthcare professionals will receive a Certificate of Participation. For information on the applicability and acceptance of Certificates of Participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by the ACCME, please consult your professional licensing board.
