Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS)

This activity will provide an overview of Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), with a focus on the diagnosis and management of PMOS in adolescents. It will review current diagnostic criteria, including the evaluation of irregular menstrual cycles and clinical and biochemical hyperandrogenism, and highlight important differences in diagnosing adolescents compared with adults. Participants will also review evidence-based management approaches, including menstrual regulation, metabolic and cardiovascular risk assessment, lifestyle interventions, and pharmacologic treatment.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for pediatricians and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of adolescents with or at risk for PMOS.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Define PMOS and its key clinical features.
  • Describe current diagnostic criteria for PMOS in adolescents.
  • Identify appropriate management options for adolescents with PMOS.
