Building Renal Genetics into Your Nephrology Practice Symposium
Chicago, IL US
July 24, 2026
Transforming Kidney Care Through Precision Genetics
Discover how advances in genetic testing are reshaping the diagnosis and management of kidney disease. This cutting-edge program will equip genetic counselors and nephrologists with the knowledge and practical skills needed to integrate genetic testing into clinical practice confidently. Through expert-led presentations and real-world case discussions, participants will learn how to select and interpret appropriate genetic tests, engage family members in genetic evaluation and counseling, and apply genetic information to the assessment of living kidney donors and transplant candidates.
As next-generation sequencing, whole-exome sequencing, and whole-genome sequencing become increasingly important in nephrology, clinicians must be prepared to navigate complex results and translate genetic insights into meaningful patient care. Participants will gain practical strategies for interpreting challenging findings, including variants of uncertain significance, and learn how to leverage genetic information to improve diagnostic accuracy, guide individualized treatment plans, refine prognostic assessments, and support informed transplant-related decision-making. This program is designed to help clinicians harness the power of precision medicine to improve outcomes for patients and families affected by kidney disease.
Join us to explore the latest developments in renal genetics, strengthen your clinical decision-making, and gain actionable insights you can immediately apply to patient care, genetic counseling, and transplant evaluation. Register today to stay at the forefront of precision kidney medicine!

Target Audience
This activity is designed for physicians and genetic counselors dedicated to improving patient care for patients with kidney disorders.
Learning Objectives
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- Explain the components of pre-test counseling for patients undergoing genetic testing for kidney disease.
- Describe the spectrum of genetic test results encountered in hereditary kidney disorders.
- Choose the appropriate genetic testing strategy for patients with suspected hereditary kidney disease and their at-risk family members.
- Interpret pedigrees demonstrating Mendelian inheritance patterns associated with kidney disease.
- Identify patients with kidney disease who warrant genetic testing to support diagnosis and management.
- Select patients with nephrolithiasis who warrant evaluation for a genetic etiology.
- Determine which potential living kidney donors should undergo genetic testing before donation.
