Advanced Implementation and Adaptation of Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD

This activity will enhance the knowledge, competence, and confidence of behavioral health professionals in the advanced application of Prolonged Exposure therapy for PTSD, with a particular focus on improving implementation, addressing barriers to treatment delivery, and providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed care for diverse patient populations.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for mental health professionals, including licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, clinical social workers, and advanced psychology trainees, who provide trauma treatment to patients.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the theoretical framework and empirical rationale underlying Prolonged Exposure therapy for PTSD.
  • Implement the standard Prolonged Exposure protocol for patients with PTSD across varying trauma presentations.
  • Adapt Prolonged Exposure interventions to support culturally responsive and trauma-informed care for diverse patient populations.
  • Analyze patterns of avoidance, underengagement, and overengagement that arise during Prolonged Exposure therapy.
  • Evaluate Prolonged Exposure adaptations for appropriateness while maintaining fidelity to core treatment principles.
  • Design strategies to overcome implementation barriers and support the sustainable use of Prolonged Exposure therapy in clinical practice.
  • Formulate consultation plans to support ongoing competency in the delivery of Prolonged Exposure therapy.
