1) Acquire an understanding of the pre-symptomatic stage of ALS, with insights from the pre-symptomatic stages of other neurodegenerative disorders;

2) Recognize the existence of mild motor impairment (MMI) as a prodromal clinical state in ALS;

3) Acquire an understanding of ongoing efforts to determine whether some genetic forms of ALS might be prevented
