
World View with a Focus on Spiritual and Religious Diversity

This session will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to provide sensitive, inclusive care to patients of all faiths, spiritual beliefs, or none.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for physicians and other healthcare professionals at the University of Chicago Medicine who seek to enhance their skills and knowledge in working effectively within a multicultural healthcare environment with patients of a variety of religious and spiritual beliefs.
Learning Objectives
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify the definitions of worldview, religion, and spirituality in the context of patient care;
- Explain how spirituality and religion can influence patient health and wellness outcomes;
- Analyze case examples to determine how addressing spiritual and religious needs can impact patient satisfaction and adherence to care plans;
- Demonstrate how to contact and collaborate with chaplains and the Spiritual Care Department to address a patient’s spiritual needs.
