The Valve Patients’ Journey: The How, Why and When of Transcatheter Valve Intervention

November 16, 2024
In the rapidly evolving field of structural heart interventions, transcatheter valve therapy has emerged as a cornerstone in treating aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve diseases. Due to the pace of practicing medicine in today's environment it is difficult for primary care physicians to take the time to keep up with all the most current changes in medical breakthroughs.

This symposium with provide a platform for physicians to learn and explore the clinical decision-making process for when transcatheter valve interventions are indicated, why these approaches are preferred in certain patient populations, and how these procedures are performed with state-of-the -art technology.

Target Audience

This event is designed for primary care physicians and healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and management of valvular heart disease.

Learning Objectives

Through participation in a multifaceted, interactive curriculum, participants will learn to:

  • Identify at least three key clinical indications for transcatheter valve interventions, including patient selection criteria for aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve interventions;
  • Explain procedural techniques used in transcatheter valve interventions, including the tools and technologies involved;
  • Interpret pre - and post-procedural imaging findings (such as those described in the echocardiography and CT reports) to assess valve anatomy and procedural outcomes in transcatheter valve interventions;
  • Evaluate and compare the expected patient outcomes and risks of transcatheter valve interventions versus medical therapy alone and surgical valve replacement by the conclusion of the activity;
  • Develop and formulate comprehensive treatment plans for patients with valvular heart disease, considering when to recommend transcatheter interventions over other options.
