Target Audience
This activity is designed for medical professionals working within the areas of Addiction Medicine, Family Practice, General Practice, Geriatric Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Neuropsychiatry, and Psychiatry within the Chicagoland area.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- List the importance of proper screening assessment, referral, intervention, and treatment for both psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders;
- Examine the various treatment modalities, including pharmacotherapy, for both psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders.
- Discuss the brief history of stimulant, sedatives, alcohol, and other drugs misuse and abuse within the United States.
- Analyze the current opiate crisis and evaluate how traditional Buprenorphine induction protocols can be ineffective.
- Explain the pharmacological and structural barriers to Buprenorphine induction that lead to it being less prescribed to patients with OUD, and examine the mechanisms of action and risks associated with methamphetamine.
