Self-Compassion for Healthcare Communities

The evidenced-based Self-Compassion for Healthcare Communities (SCHC) program was created specifically to teach healthcare professionals skills they can use to care for themselves while on the job. These skills cultivate wellbeing and resilience and help deal with distressing emotional situations as they occur both at work and in other aspects of their personal lives.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for UCMC healthcare professionals dedicated to caring for patients in any capacity.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Identify strategies to manage stress and burnout;
  • Discuss how to motivate oneself with kindness rather than criticism;
  • Describe how self-compassion and mindfulness can be integrated into one's role as a healthcare professional;
  • Recall the physiology and research of self-compassion;
  • State how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease.
