Safer Sedation/Analgesia by Non-Anesthesiologists-January 2016
Non-anesthesia practitioners should receive regular training in sedation pre-assessment, pharmacology, monitoring, rescue and regulatory concerns in order to administer moderate and deep sedation safely and in compliance with Medical Center policy. This course is designed to meet this need and to assess airway rescue maneuvers. This education not only ensures compliance with relevant regulatory agencies, but helps assure the safety of sedation services at the University of Chicago stays at a high level.
Target Audience
This activity has been designed for physicians and other allied health professionals in the Anesthesiology specialty.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the participants should be able to:
- Recite the monitoring needs and devices used during sedation;
- State basic pharmacology of sedative and analgesic agents and their reversal agents;
- Perform airway rescue maneuvers to support ventilation.
