Improving communication for health and wellness professionals is crucial for addressing clinical and administrative errors, enhancing teamwork and service coordination, and promoting learning and practice updates, ultimately improving the quality of care provided. Participants in this session will learn and practice effective communication skills, including actively inviting and appreciating differences to address misunderstandings and miscommunication. The goal is to increase self-awareness and foster non-judgmental communication to gain a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives. These communication skills are crucial in promoting a more inclusive and empathetic environment that supports growth and learning, particularly for culturally informed health and wellness services.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for health and wellness professionals at the University of Chicago interested in enhancing skills and knowledge of inclusion and belonging.

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe common communication errors in healthand wellnes settings and explain strategies to prevent them;
  • Explain key components of inclusive communication and their role in reducing clinical and administrative errors;
