Reflecting on Current Diversity and Inclusion Practices to Inform Future Directions

Reflection is crucial to sustaining critical thinking, learning, and self-awareness in clinical and administrative work, especially for mental health professionals. In particular, group reflection practices can increase empathy and perspective-taking, resulting in greater collaboration and innovation. Through a group reflection exercise and small group discussions, participants in this session will share their self-reflections and consider future directions to foster inclusion and belonging.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, medical assistants, phlebotomists, nurses, physicians, wellness coaches, and support and administrative staff who provide health and wellness information and services to students at the University of Chicago.
Learning Objectives
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify challenges, barriers, and gaps that impact staff connection and collaboration;
- Describe how openness and curiosity through active listening and sharing fosters inclusion and belonging;
- Examine current practices through a diversity and inclusion lens to inform future professional development, learning, and inclusive practices.
