Resilience-Based Care Skills Training: Stress and Self-Regulation

May 14, 2024
This series will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to manage the emotional and physiological symptoms of stress while identifying and addressing the system drivers of fatigue present in the healthcare environment.

This session highlights the physiological and psychological impact of stress on the body and introduces participants to the skill of self-regulation. Self-regulation is the ability to recognize when our body’s threat response is activated and then to relax our muscles to the point that the sympathetic nervous system is no longer dominant. In the session, participants learn and practice three specific exercises to become mindful of the body and then relax the body to relax the mind. The goal of these exercises is to reduce the impact of stress and to help manage stressful situations. This course is a stand-alone learning opportunity, but it requires the pre-requisite of Session 1.
