Integration of Personalized Medicine in Clinical Practice

While Personalized Medicine holds tremendous potential in improving and transforming patient care, there is presently a significant knowledge gap among healthcare providers. At the end of this course, clinicians will be able to define personalized medicine and its current applications as well as compare available genomic resources, incorporate this information into clinical practice, and ultimately improve the delivery of healthcare.

 

 

 

Target Audience

This activity has been designed for physicians and allied healthcare professionals interested in the potential of personalized medicine in their respective specialty.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this program attendees will be able to:

  • Recognize NorthShore’s research and clinical goals in personalized medicine;
  • Identify what services are currently available to patients through the Center for Personalized Medicine;
  • Understand how the Center for Personalized Medicine fits into national efforts within the Precision Medicine Initiative
  • Define Pharmacogenetics and related terms;
  • List examples of gene/drug pairs for the clinical application of pharmacogenomics;
  • Provide understanding of how genetics can be used to guide screening and treatment decisions in a variety of cancer types;
  • Provide understanding of currently available tests that can be used to guide screening and treatment decisions in prostate cancer.
