Pediatric Integrative Medicine Educational Symposium: Bringing Comfort and Joy to Those We Care for Through Mindfulness

The goal of this training is to improve the multidisciplinary healthcare team’s knowledge of integrative methods to manage children’s pain.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for all members of the Comer Pain Champion Team: physicians, staff nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare professionals committed to the continuous improvement of pain management in children.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define integrative medicine and how it can be used in practice;
  • Demonstrate how to use aromatherapy with patients;
  • Describe the roles of massage and accupressure in pain management;
  • Demonstrate providing accupressure to a patient suffering from pain;
  • Practice using appreciative inquiry interviews to alleviate pain;
  • Identify the five steps of mindfulness meditation;
  • Discuss the benefits of engaging in breathing techniques to alleviate pain.
