The retreat's primary goal is to center discussions on creating an equitable and inclusive healthcare education environment. It will address the diverse needs of learners and patient populations within the medical education landscape by recognizing and embracing the diversity in student cohorts, tailoring educational approaches to varied learning styles, and acknowledging individual challenges.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for program and clerkship directors.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify competing and overlapping priorities for learners seeking to obtain abortion training from within and outside of UCM;
  • Describe the possible short-term and long-term impact and consequences of the SCOTUS affirmative action ruling on both UME and GME recruitment;
  • Discuss ways to respond to crises that prioritize community and belonging;
  • Explain the systemic barriers faced by LGBTQ+ people in accessing high-quality, affirming healthcare, as well as the health-related risks to which these barriers can contribute.
