NorthShore Center for Simulation and Innovation - Endorsed by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), we offer a fun and engaging simulation course in a collegial learning environment. We strive to provide high quality simulation training that is pertinent to the practicing anesthesiologist with a focus on personal growth and quality improvement. We use high fidelity immersive simulation to teach crisis resource management to attending anesthesiologists. As well as, instructor led simulation and debriefing to improve self-awareness, reflective learning and communication skills.

Members of ASA and the simulation community will benefit from this Program as it promotes patient safety through refinement of training and team enhancement. This simulation course fulfills one requirement of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s (ABA) Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program (MOCA®) Part IV. Please consult the ABA website for a list of all MOCA® requirements.

Target Audience

This course has been designed for anesthesiologists to satisfy their MOCA® requirements.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Recognize the emotional stress that can occur during crisis;
  • Use reflective learning and self-awareness to assess personal performance;
  • Recognize external pressures such and distractions that may occur during crisis situations;
  • Perform scenario specific procedural tasks;
  • Use closed loop communication during crisis management.
