The overall goal of this project is to improve Dr. CART team performance on critical steps that must occur during a cardiac arrest and enhance the knowledge of learners on the importance of these life-saving critical steps.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed for physicians and other healthcare professionals who respond to cardiac arrests at UCM.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participatants will be able to:

  • Perform essential actions appropriate for discipline and specialty that must occur within the first moments of a cardiac arrest;
  • Describe how to proactively working through arrest algorithms in anticipation of next steps in order to assist the code team in minimizing interruptions throughout cardiac arrest;
  • Identify the responsibilities of each member of the Dr. CART team;
  • State appropriate procedures for activation and cancellation of the 1-4-7 emergency response communication system;
  • Explain how to utilize the closed-loop communication technique to ensure understanding and completion of assigned tasks and responsibilities across professions;
  • Demonstrate how to use hospital-wide emergency equipment;
  • Explain the application and utilization of hospital-wide Dr. CART policies and procedures.
