Medical Education Day Keynote Lecture: The Master Adaptive Learner: Avoiding the Pitfalls and Realizing the Promise

The goal of this activity is to implement medical education curricula and assessment systems that enable the creation of master adaptive students, residents, and faculty physicians.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for faculty, staff, and administrators who develop curriculum; provide direct classroom, simulation, and clinical instruction; and oversee learner assessment systems.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Compare routine expertise and adaptive expertise in a medical education setting;
  • Describe the conceptual model of the Master Adaptive Learner (MAL);
  • Discuss the interplay between the master adaptive learner conceptual model, competency-based medical education, and the learning environment.
