Medical Education Day: Feeding Forward/Reflecting Back Across the Continuum of Medical Education

This retreat will assemble program directors, clerkship directors, and educational leaders to review the current status of the transition process from medical school to residency; review the literature on novel methods of assessment of readiness for the next steps in training; develop a tool for the useful dissemination of information to training programs and to students; and develop plans for residency programs to deliver feedback to medical schools in order to inform curricular development.

Target Audience

This course is designed for medical educators interested in improving communication across the educational continuum.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, the participants should be able to:

  • Assess the importance of program communication related to medical graduate readiness to assume patient care activities at the beginning of residency;
  • Describe novel methods of assessment and formative feedback that can be helpful to graduates and residency programs.
  • Identify sources of data, timing of information transfer, and the type of information shared between residency programs and medical schools;
  • Develop metrics and outcomes of resident performance that would be valuable for residency programs to share with medical schools about their graduates.
