The University of Chicago’s non-credit certificate in Medical Writing and Editing uses the AMA Manual of Style as the foundation for mastering the fundamentals and best practices of medical writing, editing, and communication.
 
Medical writing is a growing and essential skill that meets the needs of the changing healthcare landscape. UChicago’s online Medical Writing and Editing certificate program offers a comprehensive curriculum focused on creating medical communicators with strong writing, editing, data reporting, and analytic skills. You will benefit from expert instructors within an innovative curriculum that is interactive and flexible, as well as networking opportunities with fellow students and industry leaders. Beyond the classroom, we offer advising, coaching, and career services; extracurricular events; and access to university resources. Our programs are designed for busy professionals, so you can boost your skills quickly in nine months to one year, part-time.

Target Audience

Designed for both professionals with a background in science who want to acquire writing skills, and those with a background in writing or an English degree who want to understand medical terminology.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Edit medical manuscripts for grammar, clarity, and adherence to professional standards;
  • Interpret and report biostatistical data accurately to enhance the credibility of medical writing;
