The goal of this activity is to equip educators with a practical framework, foundational knowledge, and curated resources to support learners during the transition to residency, enabling participants to apply evidence-informed strategies beyond the session to enhance educational practice and learner support.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for graduate and undergraduate medical education (GME and UME) leadership and faculty, residents and fellows, program coordinators, institutional leadership, UChicago Medicine faculty and staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe national trends and innovations aimed at improving the UME-GME transition.
  • Define core competencies for residency readiness.
  • Recognize common gaps in new interns’ preparedness and areas for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen alignment and learner support across educational settings.
  • Apply a structured framework and curated resources to support learners during the transition to residency.
  • Evaluate strategies and resources to optimize learner outcomes in the transition to residency.
