LISTOS: The LMSA Instruction, Support, Training & Orientation Session for Advisors and Alumni/Professional Track

The LMSA Instruction, Support, Training & Orientation Session for Advisors (LISTOS) was developed to create unity among medical trainees, faculty advisors, and healthcare professions with the goal of promoting the recruitment, retention, and promotion of Latina/o/x, Hispanic, of Spanish origin, and related (LHS+) individuals in medicine.
 
LISTOS aims to ensure our advisors are prepared and trained on an annual basis in order to effectively guide future leaders of medicine. In discussing and adopting best practices for advisors, we all move closer to a field in which we are well-represented and valued for our unique contributions to medicine.

Alumni & Professional Track
The purpose of the Alumni/Professional Track is to provide professional development to alumni, physicians, and health care leaders to learn about and discuss opportunities to further support LMSA members and strengthen LMSA.

 

Target Audience

This activity is designed for faculty and physician advisors pursuing career advancement in academic medicine.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

LISTOS

  • Describe current challenges facing Latina/o/x/e, Hispanic, or of Spanish origin, and related (LHS+) trainees along the pipeline of medical education;
  • Examine the roles that advisors play in the personal and professional development of LHS+ medical and premedical students;
  • Discuss best practices for advising and supporting LHS+ medical and premedical students;
  • Evaluate strategies for leveraging LMSA-related work for advisor career advancement;
  • Identify successful programming and initiatives consistent across the national, regional, and chapter levels of LMSA.
Alumni & Professional Track
  • Raise awareness of opportunities to re-engage with academic medical centers;
  • Understand the unique benefits of having served as a community practitioner and/or community-based leader and mentoring LMSA members;
  • Learn about opportunities to serve LMSA members and LMSA Inc.
