Instilling Accountability and Managing Disruptive Behavior

This activity will illuminte structural and personal response to disruptive behavior. Participants will be provided with the tools to establish an acceptable standard of staff behavior and to understand the roles that incentives, intrinsic motivation, and morale play in activating accountability.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for physician leaders at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the participants should be able to:
- Devise strategies to articulate clear expectations towards institutional goals and follow through on them while emphasizing great outcomes over assigning blame and refusing to accept underperformance even when facing challenges;
- Create individualized incentives to maximize gain from members of their healthcare team;
- Outline how to promote accountability among members of their healthcare team by defining standards, securing appropriate resources, and navigating obstacles;
- Describe how to build a build culture within their unique healthcare teams to provide excellent patient care;
- Recognize how different forms of physician disruption diminish patient safety, increase staff turnover, and increase labor costs;
- Design an action plan to improve a skill deficiency within the healthcare team that diminishes patient care;
- Identify opportunities among co-workers for collaboration and teamwork to enhance respect, empowerment, and patient safety.
