Kluver Memorial Symposium Series: Epilepsy Surgery Update: From Resection to Three Dimensional EEG and MR-Guided Ablations

This activity will highlight new techniques in epilepsy surgery and our capabilities to perform them. Indications for amygdala-hippocampectomy and callosotomy and the use of Stereo-EEG in the presurgical evaluation will be presented. In addition, the use of SEEG and functional MRI for research in epilepsy patients will be highlighted.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for neurologists, pediatric neurologist, neuroscientists, neurosurgeons including clinicians and researchers, and other healthcare professionals interested in the surgical treatment of epilepsy.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Discuss the evidence that supports the use of new techniques in epilepsy surgery to improve patient care;
  • Identify how the use of SEEG and functional MRI for research improves the outcomes for epilepsy patients;
  • Analyze the value of Stereo-EEG in the evaluation of candidates for epilepsy surgery;
  • Define the role of laser ablations in the treatment of refractory focal epilepsy;
  • Evaluate the role of MEG, SPECT, and MRI in treatment of non-lesional epilepsy.
