IBD-U APP Educational Seminar Series: Surgical Interventions in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

This activity will improve the quality of care provided by the nursing team and advanced practice providers caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease within the University of Chicago’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center through knowledge acquisition and interprofessional communication.
 
This session will educate participants about the application of surgical interventions for the treatment and management of inflammatory bowel disease and discuss emergent and elective indications for surgery. It will also cover different types of surgical interventions.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for inpatient RNs, outpatient RNs, CMAs, APPs, and other healthcare professionals providing care to patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify how surgery can treat Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis;
  • Recognize various surgical techniques and interventions for inflammatory bowel disease treatment and management;
  • Classify the pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative considerations for J-Pouch patients.
