This activity is strategically designed to address gaps in knowledge and awareness of the myriad issues impacting patients living with HIV. Specifically crafted to equip healthcare professionals with the latest tools and insights necessary to elevate patient care to new heights, this activity will dive into the dynamic landscape of HIV patient care, bridge the awareness gap, and transform your approach to patient well-being.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals committed to the treatment and care of patients living with HIV, STIs, viral hepatitis, COVID-19, mpox, and other HIV-related conditions and comorbidities.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recall the latest epidemiology of COVID-19, surveillance of variants, and its degree of severity among adults;
  • Identify fundamental elements of ambulatory HIV care via virtual encounters, including respectful engagement, sensitive history taking, limited physical diagnosis, laboratory management and clinical monitoring, and patient education;
  • List the classes and targets of anti-retroviral drugs, their side effects, and their indications for use;
  • State current trends in HIV epidemiology in the United States and the significance of status-neutral strategy;
  • Cite factors leading to ART drug resistance and three ways to reduce the risk of drug resistance;
  • Define the epidemiology and management of hepatitis B and C in people with HIV;
  • Review ART management in consideration of the prevention and effective management of common HIV co-morbidities, including depression, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, and HIV-associated neurological defects;
  • Describe the epidemiology, prevention, and treatment of mpox and severe mpox in people living with HIV;
  • Discuss the fundamentals of and new trends in HIV prevention, testing, and counseling, including the use of PrEP and ART for prevention (U=U);
  • Illustrate strategies for HIV management during pregnancy and breastfeeding to prevent mother-to-child transmission;
  • Examine the current understanding of the COVID-19 endemic, including antiviral and immunomodulatory treatments and vaccines;
  • Explain the current epidemiology of the most common STIs in the United States and current STI prevention and treatment strategies.
