Faculty Advancing in Medical Education (FAME) is a faculty development program sponsored by the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators and the MERITS Program (Medical Education Research, Innovation, Teaching, and Scholarship). FAME supports faculty educators by providing resources and training in conceptual and practical skills for teaching and assessment.

This interactive, case-based workshop guides medical educators through the practical integration of generative AI into graduate medical education (GME) without compromising clinical judgment. Participants will explore real-world scenarios, examine ethical and safety considerations, and learn strategies for leveraging AI as a collaborative “co-pilot” in teaching and assessment. Attendees will leave with actionable frameworks and skills to thoughtfully implement AI tools in their educational programs.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for course and clerkship directors in the Pritzker School of Medicine and faculty who teach in courses and clerkships.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Interpret key concepts, trends, and emerging applications of generative AI relevant to GME to identify teaching opportunities.
  • Evaluate ethical, safety, and practical considerations in real-world AI integration scenarios.
  • Apply structured frameworks and strategies to specific teaching and assessment cases.
  • Develop and optimize user and system prompts through hands-on exercises.
