Faculty Advancing Medical Education (FAME): Chief Resident Workshops

Faculty Advancing in Medical Education (FAME) is a faculty development program sponsored by the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators and the MERITS Program (Medical Education Research, Innovation, Teaching, and Scholarship). FAME supports faculty educators by providing resources and training in key conceptual and practical skills in teaching and assessment.

This half-day retreat is designed for chief residents to enhance their teaching and evaluation skills. Three workshops will be offered and will run concurrently. Chiefs will be asked to sign up to attend 2 of the workshops.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for chief residents at the University of Chicago to enhance their teaching and evaluation skills.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Define the characteristics of effective feedback;
  • Discuss the importance of aiding others in providing feedback;
  • Describe how to facilitate others in giving feedback;
  • State why quality presentations are necessary for all aspects of academic medicine;
  • Identify interactive tools to improve PowerPoint presentations;
  • Outline the tenets of medical professionalism in social media;
  • Determine the limitations of clinical teaching;
  • Define the One Minute Preceptor and its role in clinical education;
  • Identify methods for teaching at the bedside, in the operating room, or on rounds.
