Faculty Advancing Medical Education (FAME): Making Feedback a Habit

Faculty Advancing in Medical Education (FAME) is a faculty development program sponsored by the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators and the MERITS Program (Medical Education Research, Innovation, Teaching, and Scholarship). FAME supports faculty educators by providing resources and training in key conceptual and practical skills in teaching and assessment.

Incorporating giving feedback into a busy clinical practice can be challenging. This session will give clinical educators practical tips and tricks for giving feedback to learners and will encourage educators to make giving feedback a habit that they consistently practice with their learners.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for faculty members at the University of Chicago and NorthShore University HealthSystem dedicated to medical education.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the basics of effective feedback;
  • Discuss ways to avoid bias when giving feedback;
  • Identify shortcuts for making feedback a habit;
  • Recall how to incorporate just-in-time feedback for learners in clinical practice.
