Faculty Advancing Medical Education (FAME): Teaching on the Fly

Faculty Advancing in Medical Education (FAME) is a faculty development program sponsored by the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators and the MERITS Program (Medical Education Research, Innovation, Teaching, and Scholarship). FAME supports faculty educators by providing resources and training in conceptual and practical skills for teaching and assessment.
Teaching in the clinical setting is an effective way for learners to gain clinical skills. However, the clinical environment presents several unique challenges to educators and learners. This session will focus on strategies medical educators can use when teaching in the clinical environment and other settings with limited time.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for course and clerkship directors in the Pritzker School of Medicine and faculty who teach in courses and clerkships.
Learning Objectives
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- Select a teaching strategy for personal use to refine and adapt for future teaching on the fly;
- Identify strategies for efficient clinical teaching, including several commonly used frameworks;
- Describe the qualities of effective teaching in different time-limited venues and scenarios.
