Faculty Advancing Medical Education (FAME): Bringing Allyship to Medical Education and Teaching

Faculty Advancing in Medical Education (FAME) is a faculty development program sponsored by the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators and the MERITS Program (Medical Education Research, Innovation, Teaching, and Scholarship). FAME supports faculty educators by providing resources and training in key conceptual and practical skills in teaching and assessment.

The purpose of this session is to facilitate a discussion that will develop skills to become a successful ally to learners in various educational environments. The participants will gain an understanding and a comfort with applicable strategies centered on allyship.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for faculty members at the University of Chicago and NorthShore University HealthSystem dedicated to medical education.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the PRIDE values;
  • State how allyship can be used by medical educators;
  • Discuss the risks of unsafe and unsupportive learning environments;
  • Identify strategies to foster allyship as educators.
