ECHO-Chicago: Vision Loss Prevention and Mitigation in Adults
December 4, 2024 to January 22, 2025
In collaboration with the nation’s leading volunteer eye health and safety organization, Prevent Blindness, ECHO-Chicago has developed a virtual 6-week training program that will provide an evidence-based approach to improve and empower PCPs with knowledge and confidence to deliver better healthcare across the lifespan, promote the prevention of vision disorders, and improve healthcare for patients who are visually impaired or those patients at risk of losing vision. Sessions will include short didactic presentations followed by participant-led case presentations. The goal of this activity is to increase the workforce capacity of primary care clinicians who are working to improve healthcare for patients who are visually impaired or those patients at risk of losing vision.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for community-based primary care providers interested in providing care to patients who are visually impaired or those patients at risk of losing vision.

- Recall common co-morbid mental health conditions associated with vision impairment;
- Recognize functional vision impairment and key screening questions;
- State how to improve interprofessional communication between primary care clinicians and eye care providers in community health centers;
- Illustrate the impact of cataracts on the eye and the importance of education and early detection in cataract management;
