This activity will introduce learners to safety behavior tactics and communication tools that promote a culture of safety and are evidence-based, validated tools that aid in the prevention of safety events. Solutions for Patient Safety strongly encourages education to integrate strategies to improve patient safety, which aligns with Comer Children’s Hospital's patient safety goals. It will incorporate strategies to avoid errors, improve patient care, and help the entire care team to be competent working together to improve patient care.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for Comer Children’s Hospital clinicians dedicated to preventing medical errors.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recall how to apply error prevention behaviors in daily actions;
  • Identify the key performance indicators associated with patient safety culture;
  • State how to integrate high reliability, leadership methods, and error prevention techniques systematically to enhance patient and employee safety;
  • Differentiate between the three ways in which humans make errors reliably;
  • Describe the strategic and tactical partnership with Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS);
  • Discuss how to effectively communicate error prevention behavioral expectations within your team;
  • Explain how to reinforce error prevention behaviors within your team.
