Excellence in Providing New Directions (ExPAND) in Mifepristone Use

February 24, 2026 to April 28, 2026
With abortion and early pregnancy loss care in the United States facing unprecedented challenges, primary care and community health centers play a critical role in ensuring access. Serving as the first point of care and rooted in longitudinal relationships, primary care providers can expand abortion access by providing accurate information and referrals to their patients seeking abortion, and by providing care when the necessary supports are in place.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for clinician-champions and small interdisciplinary teams from established primary care and multispecialty practices, including community health centers across the United States.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Explain federal and state-level regulations governing abortion care and mifepristone use.
  • Describe evidence-based protocols for the use of mifepristone and misoprostol in early abortion and miscarriage care.
  • Apply clinical guidelines for patient counseling, medication administration, and follow-up after mifepristone use.
  • Assess the impact of abortion stigma and safety concerns on clinical teams, patients, and care delivery within primary care settings.
  • Analyze practice-level barriers to integrating mifepristone for early abortion and miscarriage care in safety-net settings.
  • Develop a feasible, context-specific implementation plan to support mifepristone provision within participants’ clinical practices.
