ECHO-Chicago: Refugee & Migrant Health
April 9, 2026 to July 9, 2026
Caring for Refugee and Migrant Populations: Practical Skills for Clinicians
Refugee and migrant populations in Illinois are growing rapidly, bringing diverse and often complex health needs shaped by displacement, trauma, and barriers to care. Yet many clinicians have limited training in delivering culturally responsive, trauma-informed care—or in conducting forensic health evaluations that can be critical to patients’ legal protection. This educational series is designed to help close these gaps and expand access to high-quality care.
Through engaging, case-based learning, participants will build practical skills to care for refugee and migrant patients across clinical settings. Topics include managing infectious and migration-related conditions, addressing mental health needs, conducting trauma-informed histories, understanding immigration-related barriers to care, and integrating principles of culturally responsive practice into everyday clinical decision-making.
Leave with the confidence and tools to provide compassionate, evidence-based care, support patients navigating complex systems, and contribute to more equitable access to healthcare and forensic evaluation services across Illinois.

This activity is designed for all primary care clinicians who provide care for refugee and migrant populations in Illinois.
