ECHO-Chicago: Resistant Hypertension
January 20, 2026 to April 21, 2026
Transform Hypertension Care in Your Community!
Hypertension is one of the most powerful and modifiable drivers of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure, yet blood pressure control remains unacceptably low, especially in medically underserved communities. In Illinois, one in three adults lives with hypertension, and fewer than 25% have it under control. For many patients, community-based primary care clinicians are the frontline and lifeline of care.
This dynamic educational series empowers primary care clinicians to take on one of the most challenging aspects of cardiovascular care: resistant hypertension. Through practical, guideline-driven training and expert mentorship, participants will gain the skills and confidence to move beyond in-clinic measurements, implement out-of-office blood pressure monitoring, and overcome real-world barriers to optimal management.
Be part of a growing community of clinicians committed to improving outcomes, reducing disparities, and delivering smarter, more effective hypertension care starting now.
Target Audience
This activity has been designed for primary care clinicians interested in the treatment of resistant hypertension.
Learning Objectives
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe current clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and management of resistant hypertension.
- Apply evidence-based blood pressure measurement techniques, including appropriate use of in-office, home, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.
- Differentiate true resistant hypertension from pseudo-resistant hypertension in primary care practice.
- Select comprehensive management strategies for patients with resistant hypertension.
- Analyze clinical features of hypertension, indicating secondary causes or specialty referral.
- Individualize hypertension management for high-risk populations, including African American patients, older adults, and patients with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, or elevated cardiovascular risk.
