ECHO-Chicago: Nursing Home COVID-19 Action Network Phase 2 (April 6 Cohort)

April 6, 2021 to August 24, 2021
ECHO-Chicago in partnership with the ECHO Institute at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNMHSC), the Agency for Health Research & Quality (AHRQ), and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) is launching this ECHO program to train and support nursing home staff on best practices for protecting patients, staff, and visitors from deadly coronavirus infection and spread.
The goal of this training is to help nursing homes implement evidence-based best practices to-

  1. Prevent COVID-19 from entering nursing homes via staff, visitors, and residents.
  2. Prevent greater spread among patients, staff, and visitors should the virus enter the nursing home.
  3. Provide best-practice care and treatment for residents who test positive for COVID-19.
  4. Protect staff from infection using best-practice safety measures
  5. Help staff build confidence in their work and feel safe from infection
  6. Support staff retention.
  7. Reduce social isolation for residents, families, and staff during these difficult times.
ECHO-Chicago will provide a 16-week interactive virtual community of practice utilizing the ECHO model. The model is based on the idea that to learn complex ideas, guided mentorship is needed in an “all teach, all learn” environment. The weekly network sessions are designed to create space to hear directly from nursing home staff about the challenges they are facing through discussion of real cases. All participants are encouraged to share best practices and learn from their peers while benefiting from the guidance of nursing home and quality improvement experts. Each network session will include a short didactic combined with case-based presentations and discussion.
