Diagnostic Ultrasound Workshop

This activity is designed to review the basics of ultrasound through hands-on practice in techniques utilizing point-of-care ultrasound to evaluate cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal, and vascular conditions.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for neurosurgeons, neurologists, pediatricians, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals dedicated to treating central nervous system congenital anomalies.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the basic physics of ultrasound technology;
  • Identify probes for different types of ultrasound usage;
  • Describe ultrasound instrumentation, including gain, depth, zoom, and Doppler;
  • Differentiate between nerve, muscle, and ultrasound-guided vessels;
  • Discuss the value of applying ultrasound technology in clinical practice;
  • Explain how to use ultrasound equipment;
  • Show the proper orientation of the ultrasound probe;
  • Place an IV and arterial line with the assistance of ultrasound technology;
  • Demonstrate proper ultrasound techniques in a variety of clinical settings.
