Demystifying Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

This activity, in conjunction with the American College of Rheumatology, enlists rheumatology fellows-in-training to deliver an educational session about lupus to non-rheumatology providers in order to help non-rheumatology healthcare providers better recognize the signs and symptoms of lupus and improve timely and accurate referral to a rheumatologist for diagnosis and treatment.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for non-rheumatology providers, including residents, NPs, PAs, generalists, and other subspecialists dedicated to providing a high level of care to their patients.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the presenting signs and symptoms of lupus;
  • Recall when to refer a suspected case of lupus to a rheumatologist;
  • Describe how to initiate a work-up for lupus;
  • Discuss lupus epidemiology and health disparities;
  • State lupus disease characteristics and genetics.
