2017 Chicago Review Course in Neurosurgery

The Chicago Review Course in Neurological Surgery has been recognized as the most thorough review of neurosurgery to residents and practicing physicians for more than thirty years. Founded in 1973, this course was launched in an effort to provide a comprehensive and intensive review for residents about to take their boards, newly established neurosurgeons and practicing neurosurgeons who want to make sure that their diagnostic and surgical skills are current. The course, formerly organized through the Cook Country Graduate School, is now being offered through Chicago Review Courses, and continues under the direct supervision of Leonard I. Kranzler, MD.
 
This rigorous eleven-day course offers nearly 100 course topics with up to 12 hours of daily lecture, and has an international faculty whose topic expertise is unsurpassed. This comprehensive review reflects the clinical developments in the field and what constitutes optimal care in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and management of complications. This course uniquely blends coverage of the relevant basic science with in-depth lectures on virtually all areas of neurological surgery, not to mention a superb review of neuroradiology.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed for physicians and other allied health professionals in the specialty of neurosurgery.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, the participants should be able to:

  • Discuss and apply principles of neuroanatomy to their neurosurgical practice;
  • Review and integrate principles of neuropathology to diagnosis and treatment;
  • Augment their knowledge of basic science to their clinical and surgical practices;
  • Recognize pathological abnormalities relevant to neurosurgery;
  • List the Principles of general surgery relevant to neurosurgery;
  • Distinguish neurosurgical treatments and their limitations;
  • Recognize the principles associated with neurosurgery and the treatment of pain;
  • Discuss strategies for managing complications related to neurosurgery;
  • Identify areas of relative strength and weakness in their fund of knowledge;
  • Demonstrate their mastery of the material by responding to questions on each lecture.
