Target Audience
This activity is designed for primary care clinicians and other healthcare professionals treating gastrointestinal and hepatic conditions in pediatric patients.
Learning Objectives
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- Explain the bi-directional relationship between the brain and gut to support understanding of how stress and emotional factors influence pediatric GI symptoms.
- Classify failure to thrive (FTT) using current pediatric growth standards and diagnostic terminology.
- Differentiate common pediatric hepatic conditions that require initial primary care management versus specialist evaluation.
- Appraise the evidence supporting the use of probiotics and micronutrient supplements in common pediatric gastrointestinal presentations.
- Apply age-specific, evidence-based strategies for managing pediatric reflux and determining appropriate referral to pediatric gastroenterology.
- Integrate evidence-informed guidelines into clinical decision-making for common pediatric gastrointestinal complaints encountered in primary or urgent care settings.
