CLIER 2016 Updates in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Practitioner's lack of knowledge of latest evidence-based data leads to substandard patient care. During this year's program, we will provide information on the use of ultrasound technology in both obstetrics and gynecology, risks of home births vs. hospital births, improved safety in labor and delivery, and current evidence on genetic markers and ovarian cancers. Day one on Friday, September 30th will be held at the University of Chicago Medicine, Center for Care and Discovery, 5700 S. Maryland, 7th floor. Day two on Saturday, October 1st will be held at the Gleacher Center, 450 North Cityfront Plaza Drive, Chicago, IL. Please visit the bottom of the page for accomodations and hotel information.

Target Audience

This educational program is designed for specialists in obstetrics and gynecology, those who received their residency or fellowship training at the University of Chicago, those that participated in the training of residents and fellows at the University of Chicago, and those practitioners in related specialties: midwives, family medicine, pediatrics and nursing.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

• Discuss how ultrasound can be utilized to increase accuracy in reproductive medicine
• Compare the statistical outcomes of radiofrequency volumetric thermal ablation of fibroids vs. other fibroid therapies
• Counsel patients on the risks and benefits associated with out-of-hospital births compared with in-hospital births
• List two strategies that have proven to increase patient safety on a labor and delivery unit
• Describe the components of the confidential adolescent visit
• Discuss recent updates in contraception
• Relate how BRCA and homologous recombination defects (HRD) affect the treatment of ovarian cancer

Saturday evening cocktails and dinner will take place at the hotel.
