This activity will provide an interdisciplinary educational forum in which to update state-of-the-art science in translational genomics and developmental therapeutics, discuss real-world cases, curate interesting pedigrees and prepare case summaries to disseminate new knowledge and evidence-based clinical management of high-risk patients and their family members. The goal is to improve detection of cancer syndromes and accelerate progress in drug development to prevent cancer morbidity and mortality in ALL populations.
Target Audience
This activity has been designed for physicians, physician assistants, advanced nurse practitioners, genetic counselors, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals involved in providing interdisciplinary cancer genetics risk assessment services or initiating such services in their health care system. Special efforts will be made to meet the needs of clinicians practicing in non-academic centers and geographically and/or socioeconomically underserved communities.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Review advanced concepts in genetics, genomics, and next generation Omics technologies;
- Debate controversies in cancer risk assessment and genetic testing including integration of polygenic risk score into comprehensive cancer risk assessment;
- Recognize advances in BRCA research with special emphasis on progress in treatment of BRCA associated cancers;
- Discuss integration of novel cancer therapies based on somatic genomic alterations in solid tumors and hematologic malignancies that may reveal germline mutations e.g MLH1 and BRCA mutations into the practice of oncology;
- Understand emerging concepts in Men’s health;
- Develop a globally informed perspective on Precision Oncology;
- Discuss emerging concepts in Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning to advance population health management;
- Understand ethical, legal and social implications of emerging technologies for early detection of cancer in diverse populations.
