Comprehensive Cancer Professional Education: Early Detection and Treatment

Join the University of Chicago Medicine Center for Asian Health Equity and Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Illinois Comprehensive Cancer Control Program for a 3-part webinar series with educational presentations and panel discussions on cancers of the colon & rectum, breast, cervix, and lung.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Illinois. The incidence of breast, cervical, lung, and colorectal cancers are higher than the national average. Significant disparities exist for all cancers by race and ethnicity, access to services, socioeconomic status, and geographic location. It is imperative to understand the disparities and their determinants and then identify solutions to address cancer disparities across our state.
This session will focus on how to use evidence-based guidelines to screen for common cancers and manage early detection.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for primary care providers, nurses, patient navigators, care coordinators, community health center staff, public health professionals, local health departments, community groups, and cancer survivor groups who are dedicated reducing colorectal cancer deaths.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify different methods of conducting effective community outreach and education activities to promote screening and early detection to achieve equitable health outcomes;
- Describe methods to identify eligible patients for cancer screenings with a focus on identifying high risk and vulnerable patients;
- Discuss how to implement patient navigation for patients facing barriers to access screening, early detection, and treatment to decrease health disparities.
