Comprehensive Cancer Professional Education Webinar Series: Primary Prevention

Join the University of Chicago Medicine Center for Asian Health Equity and Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Illinois Comprehensive Cancer Control Program for a 3-part webinar series with educational presentations and panel discussions on cancers of the colon & rectum, breast, cervix, and lung.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Illinois. The incidence of breast, cervical, lung, and colorectal cancers is higher than the national average. Significant disparities exist for all cancers by race/ethnicity, access to services, socioeconomic status, and geographic location. It is imperative to understand the disparities, and their determinants and identify solutions to address cancer disparities across our state.
This session will focus on employing preventative measures to reduce incidences of cancer in vulnerable populations.

Target Audience
This activity is designed for primary care providers, nurses, patient navigators, care coordinators, community health center staff, public health professionals, local health departments, community groups, and cancer survivor groups who are dedicated is reducing cancer deaths.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the interplay of various social determinants of health and risk for breast, cervical, colorectal and lung cancer;
- Identify different methods of promoting healthy lifestyles in community and clinic settings;
- State how to use motivational interviewing techniques to empower individuals to make decisions that enhances healthy lifestyles and promotes cancer screenings;
- Distinguish the link between healthy lifestyles and cancer prevention through case studies.
