Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Diagnose brain death and readily recognize brain death mimics accurately;
- Employ objective testing properly when necessary and avoid when it is superfluous;
- Perform an apnea test properly without challenging physiological stability;
- Communicate with families and discuss brain death in an authoritative manner without ambiguous vocabulary;
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity needed to for patients’ families to arrive at brain death acceptance.
