Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Medical Education

This activity will offer participants a comprehensive exploration of the changes in ACGME program requirements related to workforce diversity. Through interactive sessions, case studies, and discussions, learners will gain practical insights to incorporate these changes into their GME programs. The activity will provide tools and strategies to identify and mitigate microaggressions, fostering a culture of belongingness and inclusivity. By addressing the link between workforce diversity, health disparities elimination, and the importance of patient-physician concordance, participants will be equipped to promote positive healthcare interactions.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for GME leadership and faculty, trainees, program coordinators, institutional leadership, faculty and staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals dedicated to improving medical education.

Learning Objectives

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify recent changes in ACGME program requirements;
  • Articulate strategies for integrating workforce diversity into GME programs to foster inclusive learning environments;
  • Consider a comprehensive plan for developing and sustaining inclusive learning environments in GME programs;
  • Discuss the relationship between workforce diversity and the elimination of health disparities, emphasizing the importance of patient-physician racial and ethnic concordance in enhancing healthcare interactions;
  • Describe how to apply new ACGME program requirements to proactively enhance workforce diversity within GME programs, fostering an inclusive and culturally competent learning environment.
