1.  To help pediatricians understand the limits of parental authority

2.  To provide practitioners with a description of our child protective services (CPS) and what it does to promote child and family well-being

3.  To provide a framework for analyzing the boundaries of parental authority and to explore when parental decisions fall below the threshold of abuse and neglect
