Learning Objectives:

  1. The cholesterol metabolite, 27-hydroxycholesterol (27HC), is the biochemical link between the associations of obesity and cholesterol with the onset and progression of breast cancer.

  2. 27HC binds to and activates the estrogen receptors and the liver X receptors.

  3. By acting on the host microenvironment, 27HC promotes the colonization of metastatic breast cancer cells.
